LEX Africa and members celebrate Chambers and Partners rankings for 2023!

Africa Update

LEX Africa is pleased, to once again be ranked as a Band 1 Leading Regional Law Firm Network – Africa Wide by Chambers and Partners!

To provide context as to who LEX Africa is paramount to understanding the importance of the ranking that was given by Chambers and Partners. LEX Africa is a legal alliance, or legal network, of leading African law firms with over 700 lawyers, 30 member countries and 30 years of experience. LEX Africa aims to be the one-stop-shop for all international corporations looking to expand their businesses into the African continent. With the help of our vetted and highly experienced network of lawyers and law firms, we are proud to be the first and largest African legal alliance to provide cross-border and local African legal solutions for our clients.

Chambers and Partners is an independent research company operating across 200 jurisdictions delivering detailed rankings and insight into the world’s leading lawyers. Chambers empowers organisations to make informed decisions when selecting legal services, which saves time, resources and reduces risk to international corporations looking to do business internationally.

LEX Africa has been ranked by Chambers and Partners for the past 11 years and this year the research team had the following comments: Since its inception in 1993, LEX Africa has displayed considerable commitment to the African continent and its mission of developing professional legal skills and business. Its addition of firms in North and francophone Africa in recent years has bolstered its already sweeping coverage of the continent and cemented its presence across all the major linguistic regions. The core focus of the network lies in its six practice groups, including banking and finance, competition, M&A and dispute resolution. The network is increasingly focused on integration between its member firms, utilising events and secondment programmes to foster common professional values, approaches and standards, as well as to build deep professional relationships.

Apart from the ranking of the alliance, our member firms did amazingly well, as there were 47 member firm rankings and 98 individual lawyer rankings across many practice areas.  There were many new rankings as well and we feel extremely proud of our members. We would like to take this opportunity to congratulate our member firms in Africa for their outstanding achievements. This showcases the expert knowledge and expertise on the ground in each of our 30 member countries and across the individual African lawyers within the alliance.

LEX Africa has members in Algeria, Angola, Botswana, Burkina Faso, Cameroon, Cote d’Ivoire, Democratic Republic of the Congo, Egypt, Equatorial Guinea, eSwatini, Ethiopia, Ghana, Guinea, Kenya, Lesotho, Malawi, Mali, Mauritius, Morocco, Mozambique, Namibia, Nigeria, Rwanda, Senegal, South Africa, Tanzania, Tunisia, Uganda, Zambia and Zimbabwe.

Pieter Steyn, Chairperson of LEX Africa says ”We are delighted to be recognised by Chambers again.  The good news adds to our 30th birthday celebrations this year. As Africa’s first and largest legal alliance with over 700 lawyers in 30 African countries, we will continue to deliver world class legal solutions to our clients. Congratulations to our members!“
