LEX Africa contribution to SOS Children’s Villages in honour of Sternford Moyo

LEX Africa has made a contribution to SOS Children’s Villages in memory of our esteemed colleague, Sternford Moyo, who was the senior partner of LEX Africa’s Zimbabwean member Scanlen & Holderness.  Says Fidelis Manyuchi, a partner of the firm, “LEX Africa’s contribution honours Sternford’s legacy as a champion of social justice and using the law to drive positive change.  For over 130 years, Scanlen & Holderness has steadfastly championed the rule of law and human rights in Zimbabwe. Our firm’s commitment to upholding these principles has been unwavering, as evidenced by our involvement in landmark cases that have shaped the country’s legal landscape. We have consistently advocated for the protection of fundamental rights and freedoms, promoting a just and equitable society.”

He continues “As part of LEX Africa, the premier Alliance of leading law firms across Africa, we recognize the power of collaboration and collective impact. LEX Africa’s commitment to corporate social responsibility exemplifies our shared values of making a difference through the law.  We thank LEX Africa for their kindness and dedication in supporting vulnerable communities. Their contribution will undoubtedly make a meaningful difference in the lives of children and families.  Sternford’s impact continues to inspire us, and we are grateful for partners like LEX Africa who share our commitment to his values.”

Says LEX Africa’s chairperson, Pieter Steyn “Sternford was a founding father of LEX Africa and a role model for all lawyers, young and old. In order to have legitimacy, the rule of law must in practice protect the rights of all citizens especially the most vulnerable.  This principle was recognised and implemented by Sternford in his career including during his service as the first ever African President of the International Bar Association. LEX Africa and its members are committed to continuing his legacy going forward.”
