LEX Africa Celebrates International Women’s Day 2025

LEX Africa celebrates International Women’s Day on 8 March 2025. This year’s theme focuses on rights, equality and empowerment for all women and girls. Central to this vision is empowering the youth as catalysts for lasting change. 2025 also marks the 30th anniversary of the Beijing Declaration and Platform for Action adopted at the Fourth World Conference on Women in 1995. Three key areas are –

  • Advancing women’s and girls’ rights including challenging all forms of violence, discrimination and exploitation;
  • Promoting gender equality to ensure inclusivity and empowerment;
  • Fostering empowerment to allow inclusive access and opportunities for young women and girls.

Says LEX Africa Chairperson, Pieter Steyn, “The issues highlighted by this year’s theme raise important legal issues and lawyers continue to play an important role in protecting the rights of women and girls. LEX Africa is proud of its female lawyers and several LEX Africa members have been founded and/or are led by female lawyers. We remain committed to promoting the rule of law and the protection of individual rights.”
