On 17 June 2025, the National Agency for the Valorisation of Hydrocarbon Resources (ALNAFT) officially announced the preliminary results of the Algeria Bid Round 2024 during an official session held in Algiers.
This round marks Algeria’s first hydrocarbons licensing round since 2014, and the first to be conducted under Hydrocarbon Law No. 19-13, which reintroduces production sharing contracts (PSCs) and offers broader contractual flexibility to attract foreign investment.
Key points to note:
- The round covered six onshore gas blocks; five were awarded, with the potential to add 20 billion cubic metres per year on average.
- Awarded perimeters include TOUAL, GUERN EL GUESSA II, REGGANE II, AHARA, and ZERAFA
Successful bidders include:
- Zangas (Austria) / Filada (Switzerland)
- Sinopec (China)
- ENI (Italy) / PTTEP (Thailand)
- QatarEnergy (Qatar) / TotalEnergies (France)
- ZPEC (China), awarded the most competitive block
This is a key step forward in Algeria’s efforts to strengthen its hydrocarbons sector and re-engage international investors.
