The International Bar Association (IBA) Mining Law Committee and African Regional Forum held a mining conference in Dar es Salaam, Tanzania from 8โ9 September 2014.ย ย ย The conference was sponsored by Tanzanian LEX Africa member Rex Attorneys.ย Panels at the conference dealt withย the IBA Model Mining Development Agreement, the Extractive Industries Transparency Initiative (ETI), environmental and corporate social responsibility issues, the African Union’s Mining Vision and Action Plan and African mining regulatory regimes. Speakers included representatives of LEX Africa members in the Democratic Republic of the Congo, Tanzania and Zimbabwe.
LEX Africa and its Tanzanian member Rex Attorneys hosted a cocktail party for conference delegates at the Serena hotel.ย More than fifty guests were addressed by Ambassador Mwanaidi Maajar (Senior Partner of Rex Attorneys and previous Tanzanian High Commissioner to the United Kingdom and Ambassador to the United States of America) and Chris Stevens, the Head of Mining at South African LEX Africa member Werksmans and Chair of the LEX Africa Mining Team.
