Call to attend the 10th IBA Competition Conference – February 2014
The Antitrust Committee of the International Bar Association (IBA) is holding a conference in Cape Town on 7 and 8 March 2014.
The conference is being sponsored by LEX Africa and the South African LEX Africa memberWerksmans and will focus on African competition law developments and comparative international trends. Werksmans has advised clients on competition law in several African countries and lodged the first ever merger filing under the new COMESA merger control regime in February 2013.
The full conference programme will include panels on dominant firms, cartels, the new COMESA merger control regime and a regulators round table with the European Competition Commissioner Almunia, USA Federal Trade Commissioner Ohlhausen, COMESA Director Lipimile, Kenyan Competition Authority Director General Kariuki, the Russian FAS Chairman Artemyev and the South African Commissioner Tembinkosi Bonakele.
Other speakers include the chair of the South African Competition Appeal Court, Judge Dennis Davis, the chair of the South African Competition Tribunal, Norman Manoim and IBA President Michael Reynolds (who will interview the former chair of the South African Competition Tribunal, David Lewis).
